TO THE CHURCH IN THYATIRA

REVELATION 2:18-29
Revelation:2.19-20
I know your deeds, your love and faith, your service and perseverance, and that you are now doing more than you did at first.
Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess. By her teaching she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols.

The church in Thyatira was actually doing very well. The Lord listed a few areas they were doing well; their love, faith, service, and perseverance. They seemed to have had it all but there was a big and dangerous loophole; they tolerated Jezebel.

It was a big and dangerous loophole because of who Jezebel was. She was married to King Ahab, the king of Israel and was a self acclaimed prophetess( Revelation 2:20). She had power and influence. With the power and influence, she killed many prophets of God. She was an enemy of God, yet the people of God tolerated her and her teachings.

She gradually broke into the church in Thyatira with her teachings and some people fell for her, all because they allowed her. The problem with this church was who they allowed in.

Who do we allow into our lives? The people we allow, we give them power to influence us and even though some only influence non spiritual areas of our lives, they gradually break into our spiritual lives as well. We must not allow strange people into our lives because they can easily lead as astray.

There are also some who claim to be prophets of God who are actually prophets of the devil( those the bible refer to as wolf in sheep’s clothing; Mathew 7:15). Beware of these, because their aim is to introduce false teachings that will make you sin against God and lead you to false gods.

We may be on the right path today in our love, faith, service and perseverance to God but if we are not careful of the people and things we tolerate, we may miss our way.( 1 Corinthians 10:12)
