There is a unique role humility plays in submission: i.e. anyone who submits to any authority must do so in humility because it’s only in humility that one can be submissive. The whole idea of submission is an act of humility in it’s self. For us believers, the bible instructs us to submit to God and be filled with the holy spirit (Ephessians 5:22, Ephessians 6:9) and so it’s important we study and understand the role humility plays in submission.
According to the Miriam Webster’s dictionary, submission is an act of being submissive or humble. Submission is never complete without humility. As christians, we submit to Jesus christ and then to God and then we submit to each other( Ephessians 5:21-22). A proud heart will always struggle with submission because it see itself as higher and better than all.
To be able to submit to God and the holy spirit, we need to put on the nature of humility just as Christ did. The bible says he humbled himself and did not consider himself as equal to God( Philippians 2:5-8). A humble heart accepts authority and submits to that authority and such a person receives more grace, for the bible says God gives grace to the humble but resists the proud.
Our inability to experience true intimacy with the holy spirit is because we haven’t submitted fully which is as a result of pride. The pride that makes us see ourselves higher than other men and blinds us to acknowledge the sovereignty of God.
Our struggle to submit to one another sterns from the lack of humility and so we struggle to also submit to God.
A humble heart receives the grace to submit and more grace to experience and know God in the fullness of his measure.
You may want to search your heart so you can get rid off any form of pride, no matter how little it may be.
