THE MAN AND HIS HEART!

What is the heart? What does the heart of man represent? This week we dive into the subject of the heart of man.

What is the Heart?

Science has thought us the heart is an important organ of the body with primary responsibility of pumping blood to the various vessels and organs of the body. As such, it is right to say the heart is the epicenter of man without which no man can survive. Similarly, when it comes to the characterization or embodiment of a person the heart is at the forefront. Let’s dive deeper and understand two things that our heart is to us.

First your heart is your Identity, it is the embodiment of who you are as a person. It is the reflection of man. Just like the way you stand in front of a mirror and see a reflection of yourself, so is the heart. Proverbs 27:19 gives a perfect illustration of this. It reads;

As water reflects the face, so one’s life reflects the heart.

So is important to really consider the thoughts in your heart since that ultimately becomes who you really are. In Proverbs 23:7, we read that; As a man thinks in his heart so is he. That is to say you become whatever you think in your heart. Take this, your identity will be tied to whatever you think in your heart.

The second thing is that your heart is your Centre. It is the core starting place of all your thoughts, values, beliefs etc. the things you profess to be as a person emanates from your heart. This is what Luke 6:45 says;

A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

Did you read that? The second part of it the scripture says; for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. The things you store in your heart is what eventually comes out of you. You can’t store up evil and produce good nor store good and produce evil. You are what you store in your heart.

Finally, your heart is your Headquarters. Think of any organization with many branches. The branches takes instructions from the headquarters. So is your heart. It is your headquarters for decision making and everything that concern you. Whatever you do is as a result of the decisions and instructions given out from the headquarters-your heart. It is the central command of your life, therefore every area of your life is impacted by the decisions of your heart.

Having understand all that your heart is to you, it is important now to place maximum priority to the things you give your heart to. In Proverbs 4:23 the bible instruct us to do something, let’s read. Guard your heart with all diligence for out of it lies the issues of life. Guarding your heart means being intentional about what you give your heart to. That is why the Apostle Paul in Colossians 3:1 tells us to …Set our hearts on things above where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. My dear reader, it is time to identify where your heart needs to be and choose to set your hearts on those things. This is because the quality of your life is dependent on the quality of your heart and unless your heart is trusted with the Lord know that it can never lead you to the right path. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your path. (Proverbs 3:5-6)

God Bless You
