Revelation:2:12-17(NIV)
“To the angel of the church in Pergamum write: These are the words of him who has the sharp, double-edged sword.
I know where you live– where Satan has his throne. Yet you remain true to my name. You did not renounce your faith in me, even in the days of Antipas, my faithful witness, who was put to death in your city– where Satan lives. Nevertheless, I have a few things against you: You have people there who hold to the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to entice the Israelites to sin by eating food sacrificed to idols and by committing sexual immorality.
Likewise you also have those who hold to the teaching of the Nicolaitans.Repent therefore! Otherwise, I will soon come to you and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.
He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give him a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to him who receives it.
To the believers living in a city like Pergamum where Satan has his throne, be comforted, God knows what you are up against. He also sees how much you are dealing with just to remain in your faith.
John 14:30 gives an idea of who the ruler of this world is; Satan. He has his kingdom here on earth and he rules this world. As christians living in a world ruled by Satan, this is our PERGAMUM. We are surrounded by a lot of things that entices us to sin but we need not to give in to them. We must hold on to our faith.
The many things we go through may sometimes seem like the devil is winning over us. Be encouraged that God knows how much we are dealing with yet we need to stay in faith.
We should be vigilant of the schemes of the devil, satan. He can easily deceive us and let us compromise on our faith, like some of the believers in Pergamum who had given in to idolatry and sexual immorality
Let’s build our faith by holding on to the word of God( Romans 10:17). When we study the word and meditate on it, we receive strength to stand against anything that goes contrary to the word of God.
For those of us living in this world( Pergamum), let us not compromise on our faith, rather let’s live our lives like the foreigners that we are( 1 Peter 1:17)
