THE BELIEVER’S CROSS (EPISODE 3)

Matthew:16.24
 Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.

As a disciple, you are a student who follows a teacher. You must follow whoever is discipling you. You can’t claim to be a disciple of Jesus and not follow Him, because the goal at the end of the day is to become like Jesus(1John 3:2b). We must follow him to become a disciple.

HOW CAN YOU FOLLOW JESUS

We must follow Jesus by obeying the word of God. A student must study to know what the teacher is saying so he can obey. The word of God teaches us the way we should go, it lights our way and our path( Psaml 119:105). The word of shows us the path we should follow in order to follow Jesus, outside the word of God is a strange path which leads us away from following Jesus.

Follow Jesus in building the kingdom of God. Mathew 6:33 admonishes us to seek first the kingdom of God and it’s righteousness; so help build up the kingdom by telling others about Jesus. Jesus brought us into the kingdom of God and so we also need to to bring othere to this light. Folllwing your teacher is doing what you see him doing. Make disciples as he is making disciples.

Be pure just as he is(1 John 3:3,3:6). Yes we are made pure not by our deeds but by faith but then what is faith without deeds? Faith without deeds is dead ( James 2:17). If indeed you believe that you follow Jesus who knows no sin, then you must stay away from sin.

Following Jesus should be our way of life. It must be our primary purpose to follow Jesus Christ.

Dear believer, deny yourself, carry your cross and follow Jesus Christ. Fight the good race to the end for a crown.
