OUR HIDDEN IDOLS.

We may not literally carry with us idols and bow before images but our actions sometimes shows that we are into idol worshiping.

You may not necessarily place an object before you but sometimes you may be having hidden idols you bow down to.

Idols are images used to represent objects of worship and mostly represent gods. They are worshiped, sacrificed to and revered, making the worshiper a servant. The servant is committed to the idol, worships it and pleases it.

Hosea:13.2
Now they sin more and more; they make idols for themselves from their silver, cleverly fashioned images, all of them the work of craftsmen. It is said of these people, "They offer human sacrifice and kiss the calf-idols."

Though you may not have crafted images with silver and gold for yourself, though you may not be offering human sacrifices to idols, you may have allowed a master over your life that has become an idol in your heart. Who are you a servant to and who do you obey? Whatever you obey, commit to and serve, becomes your master( Romans 6:16) and then an idol hidden in your heart.

When you continue to obey your sinful desires and allow it take root in you, it becomes your master; your idol.

Though we are no longer bowing down to images, are we not guilty of haboring idols of gossip, slander, lies, sexual immorality and others?

Our hidden idols are the sin we can’t help but commit; the evil that rule over our hearts. They are difficult to overcome because we’ve made them like idols which we are servants to. We have become a servant to sin because they are hidden idols in our hearts. We reject God because we have these idols of sin hidden in our hearts.

We need to get rid of them so that we can be free because we as believers are slaves to righteousness and not to sin( Romans 6:18). We have also received the grace that helps us to walk in godliness( Titus 2:11-12).

We struggle with sin and evil because they are hidden idols in our hearts.
