Most people are tagged proud just because they are very confident. This is because confidence has to do with believing in one self and capabilities, it is more centred on self compared to humility which is more centred on others but you. This is why we need to understand both and be able to live up to expectation. I call this ” humble confidence”; being humble in your confidence. Just before we dig in, let’s correct the image of humility we have. Humility isn’t timidity, torpor or deffident, such will make you lose confidence. Hebrews 10:35 says, “do not throw away your confidence, it will be richly be rewarded”. So God expects us to be confident but also want us to be humble( Colossians 3:12).
Just as you are not supposed to esteem yourself higher and better than others, you are also not supposed to have a low self esteem. If you do that, you look down on yourself and God( your maker). You must reach that point of understanding that you are neither higher nor lower than others. Just as you believe and value others, you must believe and value yourself.
It is very humble to be confident and this happens when your confidence has it basis in Jesus Christ. Your confidence must come from seeing yourself through the eyes of God becasue he made you and placed in you whatever that is in you( Psalm 139:13-14).
To be humbly confident you must not be beyond reproach. Do not be too confident that you can not be advised and corrected. No one is above reproach and correction. You must not be complacent in your confidence.
So then, I say, in your humility be confident. The God that gives grace to the humble is the same God that rewards confidence.
Be humbly confident and live the valued life.
