Dearly beloved, we shall continue with our discussion on growing in love, we will go on a journey of how you can grow in love and express God’s love to your family, friends, spouse, and to everyone you come across.
Love starts with God; God is Love as stated in 1 John 4:16; and so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.
It’s the will of God for us to be like Him in words, thoughts and deed. Since God is love we also should love and spread His love to others just as Jesus did. It is the love of God that empowers you to obey and live for Him so that you be like Him
17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18 may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God Ephesians 3:17-19.
In your quest to please God, It’s mandatory and important to love God and grow in His love so that you will be able to enjoy all that He has for them that love Him as stated in Romans 8:28.
What does loving God do to you
- It gives you a place in Him – 1 John 4:16
- Serving Him will no more be a struggle
- Sin will not overcome you anymore
- Fear will be a thing of the past – 1 John 4:18
Finally as you grow in love, walking in love will be a normal way of life for you –Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. – Ephesians 4:15
HOW DO WE GROW IN LOVE
Salvation
This is the starting point to loving God and growing in His love and love for others, at the new birth by being saved, God plants His love (the seed) in your heart through the spirit – Romans 5:5. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. It is this seed that enables you to live for Christ as the love of God now dells in you. Like any seed it needs to grow, if not one will not reap any benefit.
The word of God
The more of God’s word in your heart, the deeper and better understanding of God love in you which helps you to grow in love. The word of God sanitizes you and rids you of all the wrong/bad/negative things and fills the void with the love of God.
Prayer
Prayer is one vital tool for sustained growth and maturity. We would consider some few prayers Apostle Paul prayed for the Churches. These prayers were centered on the growth of the believers about their love life. The love prayer scriptures if diligently engaged daily would go a long way to aid you grow and mature in love. Below are just a few of them;
And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, Philippians 1:9
…And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, so then you will be strong. Ephesians 3:17 EEB
May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else, just as ours does for you. 1 Thessalonians 3:12
One way of growing and maturing in love is to always pray the love prayer. Love is the source of strength. The more we grow in love, the more we grow in strength. The focus, pursuit, and ultimate desires of the believer is to be perfected in love. The fullness of God is made completely mature to the stature and fullness of Christ love.
