As living beings, we grow and develop, there are developments that are visible and others that aren’t visible. As we grow we we develop habits and become opinionated. We develop habits that eventualy become who we are. We realise that we are not only described by our physical features but also by our habits and character. This is the person within.
People may be attracted initially by our physical looks but are maintained and sustained by the person within. This is because all forms of relations and interactions comes from the person within also known as inner self. Anytime people refer to ‘you’ in the behavioural or emotional sense, they are mostly referring to the person within. For this reason, we need to enhance or adorn the inner self in order to give people our best selves.
The heart is the totality of our inner self. It is where morality and character is built. It is the seat of love and the home for our minds. Also, life flows from the heart( Proverbs 4:24). The bible says out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks(Mathew 12:34). Working on your inner self is working on your heart as well.
Just like we enhance our looks with beautiful clothes and accessories, let us intentionally with the same awareness enhance our inner self with beauty; good character and gracefulness.
1 Peter:3.3-4
Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes.
Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.
Indeed we need to strive to enhance our inner selves
